FAITH IN ACTION
Proverbs 3:27-28, “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it”—when you have it with you.”
The Grahams were introduced to Miracle Hill about 10 years ago when they were invited to attend our Annual Banquet in March. When asked why they wanted to get involved as volunteers Ed said, “It was truly amazing to learn about all the things Miracle Hill does”. So, Deidra began volunteering at Shepherd’s Gate by helping manage the front desk, and they started to help with special events like the Turkey Fry and Annual Banquet. Deidra said that Proverbs 3:27-28 makes her think that if there is good to be done, she should do it today and not tomorrow.
A few years ago, their son went through the Overcomers program. After he graduated, he encouraged them to get plugged in there saying, “not many people come to serve lunch on a weekday”.
For the past year, Ed and Diedra Graham have served lunch at the Overcomers Center every Wednesday, doing the usual duties that their job entails like scooping food and handing out desserts. What often goes unnoticed are the relationships that they build with the men going through the program. That simple act of seeing a need and doing what needed to be done has allowed them to become a part of the lives of our guests.
Each week Ed loves to hear the stories of the men at Overcomers, while Deidra enjoys that she can be like a mother, sister or aunt for the men that are hurting. They show up to the Overcomers graduations each month and are even involved with Homes of Hope, a ministry partner of Miracle Hill that houses men who have graduated the program while giving them training in electrical skills. Ed says that they are motivated to serve those at Miracle Hill because they have been saved by grace and that grace causes them to want to be more like Jesus and do the things that He did.
Thank you, Ed and Deidra, for loving those that we serve at Miracle Hill! If you would like more information about volunteering at the Overcomer’s Center, please contact Huff Campbell at hcampbell@miraclehill.org.
