Volunteer: Greenville Rescue Mission Lunch Hospitality

Summary:

Volunteers (must be at least 14 years of age, but anyone under 18 MUST be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times) will finalize dining room preparations and fellowship with our residents during the meal.

During mealtime, volunteers will fellowship with residents, refill drinks, and serve desserts. Our residents love to chat about lots of things from sports to current events and everything in between and long to be treated like “regular people.”  Having friends fellowship and share a meal is a vital part of their social rehabilitation by helping to remove their insecurities and fear of rejection.

We encourage you to enjoy your serving time at the Greenville Rescue Mission; feel free to photograph yourself and/or your group while you are here! Just be sure to protect the privacy of our residents by not including them in your photos.

For Groups:

We need a list of every person coming to volunteer with us. Chaperones for groups need to maintain a ratio of 5 youth to every 1 chaperone. Chaperones must be present at all times. Chaperones must be representative of the gender(s) included in the group.  If there are boys and girls in the group, chaperones should be male and female. Chaperones of the same gender must go with students into the bathroom and stay with them until returning to the group.

Volunteers (minimum age of 14, but anyone under 18 MUST be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times) will finalize dining room preparations and fellowship with our residents during the meal.

During mealtime, volunteers will serve the meal, fellowship with residents, refill drinks, and serve desserts.

For Groups:

We need a list of every person coming to volunteer with us two weeks prior to the event. Chaperones for groups need to maintain a ratio of 5 youth to every 1 chaperone. Chaperones must be present at all times. Chaperones must be representative of the gender(s) included in the group.  If there are boys and girls in the group, chaperones should be male and female. Chaperones of the same gender must go with the students into the bathroom and stay with them until returning to the group.

Volunteer: Greenville Rescue Mission Chaplain

What is a chaplain at the Greenville Rescue Mission?

A chaplain is a volunteer who functions in a ministerial capacity at the Greenville rescue Mission by embodying the presence of Christ, showing the compassion of Christ, and sharing the good news of Christ with those who come through our doors.

What does a chaplain do at the Greenville Rescue Mission?

A chaplain is present when we open up the cold weather shelter, and he would stay from 8-10pm. While he may assist in serving food and handing out some supplies, his primary task will be to engage in intentional conversation with the guests and listen to, encourage, share the gospel, and engage in the ministry of presence with the many different kinds of people and situations in the cold weather shelter.

We would prefer the chaplain be able to commit to once a week, but it can be more or less often if need be. There is flexibility, and there will be periods where the cold shelter will not open due to warmer temps. The more often and consistent, the better it will be for the chaplain and the men.

What are the qualifications to be a chaplain at the mission?

A chaplain must:

-Be a mature believer in Jesus Christ

-Agree with Miracle Hill’s doctrinal statement

-Have a sense of calling to this kind of work

-Be willing to learn and receive constructive feedback

-Be willing to engage in cold conversations and be able to share the gospel

-Have the recommendation of their church leadership

-Complete the Miracle Hill Chaplaincy Training

What are the next steps?

Please email the Greenville Rescue Mission Director, Jeremy Huff if you are interested, have questions, or would like to attend the training at jhuff@miraclehill.org

Direct office number: 864-631-0167

Pray intentionally to discern if this is right for you, and seek counsel from your church leadership.
