Kevin Reid - Volunteer at Miracle Hill Renewal Center
My name is Kevin Reid. I have had the privilege of working with the women at the Miracle Hill Renewal Center for the last 9 years.
I became involved with Renewal after returning from a short-term mission trip to Columbia, South America. This trip had been a "mountaintop faith experience" for me, and on the plane trip home, I shared with a friend (who already was a Miracle Hill volunteer) that I wanted to have an ongoing similar faith experience back home in Greenville.
He suggested I contact Reid Lehman, CEO of Miracle Hill, to see if he had any opportunity for me. I knew Reid well as I had served on the Board of Miracle Hill for 6 years in the 1990s. I was reminded at the time of a key message that I had learned from Henry Blackaby's book, "Experiencing God" when he said "Find out where God is working and go join him". When I shared with Reid my desire to be connected in some capacity on an ongoing basis, his response was " I think I have an opportunity for you" and it was to serve as a Renewal volunteer.
The job description was brief: "To teach and encourage women overcoming alcohol and drug addiction". When I asked what I would teach about, he simply said: "God will lead and show you". My background of a B.S.in Business Administration and a Masters in Hambugerology (50 years with McDonald's) did not seem to qualify me to do this but I took a baby step of faith and 9 years later, I am still blessed to share my faith journey with the 24 women of Renewal.
God has used Renewal to grow in my faith and trust in His Spirit as I prepare and minister in my twice a week "teaching " appointment. My baby step of faith has allowed me to grow in my faith and be used by Him in ways I could never have imagined.
My Renewal experience has led me to a Men's Jail Ministry at the Greenville County Jail as well as to serve as a chaplain with The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
A Bible verse that has encouraged me on my journey is Isaiah 58:10-11, If you extend your soul to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted soul, then your light shall dawn in the darkness and your darkness shall be as the noonday. The LORD will guide you continually and satisfy your soul in drought and strengthen your bones, you shall be like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.
I heard a long time ago that we are "Blessed to be a blessing". I can honestly say that the Blessings I have received through my service at Renewal are far greater than any Blessing that the Renewal ladies have received from my presence.
I am very thankful that God has allowed me to experience Him in a deeper, more dependent and more intimate relationship as a result of my Miracle Hill volunteer experience. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
